NFL: Week One Sunday Results

Published by ADMIN on

NFL Football is back!!! Beat the Books had a tough day on Sunday winning just four of the ten games we officially made picks. A couple of our losses went down to the wire and we missed that Total on the Houton/Patriots game by just a couple of points. We’ll come back strong next week.

Flashes Game Notes

Pittsburgh vs Cleveland

I don’t even know where to begin here but suffice to say I might actually consider the Browns on Sunday. Le’Veon Bell pulling the disappearing act is a tough break for the Steelers. Steeler players are allegedly pissed off about Bell……maybe they go out and blast the Browns just to show Bell they don’t need him?

The Browns are young and have upgraded in several key positions but at the end of the day Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown will take care of business in Cleveland on Sunday.

San Francisco vs Minnesota

49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is 5-0 as the 49ers starter and during that five game stretch the team scored 144 points. That is damn good and it’s too bad the defense hasn’t improved very much because Garoppolo and company are going to need to score at least 30 points a game in order to win. I don’t see that happening against the 2017 NFL top defense, do you?

Kirk Cousins at QB Is no slouch and neither are WR’s Adam Thielan and Stefan Diggs. The Vikings should win by a touchdown at home on Sunday.

Cincinnati vs Indianapolis

The Colts getting a field goal at home? I suppose the public is convinced that Andrew Luck is 100 percent healthy and ready to rock and roll. I’m not so sure. I like their offense but their defense is probably not going to be doing them many favors this season. I just don’t see the Colts stopping the Bengals offense in general and A.J. Green in particular. I do see the Colts being able to run the ball with some success against the Bengals but it will take more than a little luck to excel via the air against the Bengals secondary.

Buffalo vs Baltimore

There isn’t much I like in this football game. So I’m going to pass and I suggest you do the same lol.

Jacksonville vs NY Giants

Blake Bortles is the okayest QB in the NFL next to Kirk Cousins. At least that’s how one of my tennis students who has close ties to the Jags coaching staff describes him. Losing Marqise Lee for the season is really going to hurt but the Jags still have Leonard Fournette, Bortles and one hell of a defense.

We get to see Saqun Barkley on Sunday and I can’t wait. The Giants also have Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr so maybe they can score some points and win some games this season. I just don’t believe they win on Sunday.

Tampa Bay vs New Orleans

Drew Brees at home is a beautiful thing. Seven points would be a nicer way of betting this game but I think this is too many points. Especially when you look at their defense. They say its improved but I’m not so sure about that. Maybe if Jameis Winston was playing I would take the Bucs but I have a hard time backing Ryan Fitzpatrick against Brees at home. Plus the Bucs were dead last in defense last season and I’m going to take a wait and see approach on this defense before I back the Bucs with my bucks.

Houston vs New England

The Texans have JJ Watt and Deshaun Watson back and of course they also have DeAndre Hopkins and Lamar Miller and that right there is a TON of quality. Unfortunately they are playing against Tom Brady and the Patriots. At home. I don’t even care that over the past five seasons the Patriots are just 1-4 against the spread in home openers. It doesn’t matter to me that the Texans are 5-2 against the spread over their past seven games in September. It doesn’t’ even matter to me that nine of the last 13 Patriot games went over. The Patriots are going to find a way to win this football game and more than likely this game will exceed the 51 point total.

Tennessee vs Miami

I have a hard and fast rule; when the home team is getting three points or less I always and mean ALWAYS take the home dawg. Except for this game. I don’t like Miami and don’t like to wager on games they are involved in. I will pass on this one.

Kansas City vs L.A. Chargers

Kansas City has the potential for a potent offense. The question mark for me? Patrick Mahomes. Is he going to be as solid and steady as Alex Smith? And that for me is a wait and see. The Chargers are favored at home and are a decent football team. This should be a close game and close games are usually won by experience and Chargers QB Philip Rivers has a TON of that.

Seattle vs Denver

The Seahawks have 20 new players on their roster. And they are on the road in one of the worst places to play a road game. QB Russell Wilson is still there though and he can beat you through the air and with his feet. Denver has a new QB in Case Keenum and WR’s Demaryius Thomas and Emanuel Sanders so they should be okay in this one but I’m leaving this one ALONE.

Dallas vs Carolina

Carolina has upgraded their defense and jazzed up their offense and they looked good this preseason. The Cowboys parted ways with Dez Bryant and Jason Witten wisely retired. The Cowboys still have Ezekiel Elliot who has a terrible matchup. They also have Dak Prescott and a new WR Allen Hurns. I don’t think it will be enough for America’s team. Cam Newton and company cover this one at home easily.

Washington vs Arizona

Alex Smith has replaced Kirk Cousins and now has to take the underachieving Redskins to Arizona to play a healthy David Johnson and the Cardinals. Adrian Peterson is also with the Redskins proving that getting a high profile job in Washington isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Washington ranked dead last against the run in 2017 and I don’t think they did all that much to change things. The Cardinals shouldn’t have any trouble covering at home on Sunday.

Chicago vs Green Bay

And this brings us to our last game of the day…….and the Bears have done MUCH this offseason to upgrade their lousy franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2010. And this new look new personnel defense might just do the trick and they will be put to the test by QB Aaron Rogers. The Packers are 8-3 against the spread over their past 11 opening week games and I look for that to be 9-3 ATS after Sunday night.
